This is an original artwork called Intestines of Nostromo drawn using a stylus on a Wacom Cintiq.
It is based on a scene from Ridley Scott's Alien (1979) where Captain Dallas (Tom Skerritt) crawls though a spaceships air ducts in an attempt to flush an alien towards an airlock using a jerry-rigged flame thrower ...it's a plan with no drawbacks, surely?
The scene is utterly terrifying with the labyrinthine nature of the unlit air ducts made me think of Dallas as 'food' travelling through the intestines of some huge mechanical beast. A biomechanical aesthetic is prevalent throughout the movie, thanks to the conceptual artwork of H.R. Giger, a Swiss artist (and LSD test pilot) who specialises in overtly sexual imagery.
