Conan Artwork - See Them Driven Before You

This is an original artwork called See Them Driven Before You. It depicts Conan and Valeria, characters from the heroic fantasy novels of Robert E. Howard.

The characters themselves are inspired by (I hope obviously) the actors Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sandahl Bergman. I chose to depict them in their iconic and super cool dazzle camo from the burglary of Tulsa Dooms tower in John Milius' awesome 1982 classic Conan The Barbarian. The character poses were inspired by the promotional photoshoot for Palace Softwares 1987 absolute banger Barbarian: The Ultimate Warrior which featured Wolf from Gladiators and Maria Whittaker... perhaps a couple of other aspects were inspired by Maria too, who can say. The background is not meant to represent anywhere specifically either from the novels or the movie, just a fantasy aesthetic. 

The title comes from the epic line delivered by Conan during his accession as a gladiator, where he is asked by a Mongol general "What is best in life?". Conan replies "To crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and hear the lamentation of their women." ...total badass!

This piece was drawn with a stylus using a combination of watercolour and oil brush sets.
