HORSES AT SUNSET

This piece was originally conceived as a composite of four separate sketches. The composite was then drawn over with a stylus using very fine vectorised real oil strokes as the brush set. I wanted to convey a physical dynamism and almost tactile sense of movement so drew the horses running through water. The displacement of water is a rather obvious, almost cliché choice, however, a very effective one. The obscured sunset was for dramatic purposes as it allowed me to overemphasis the contrast on the horses which adds a flair of the dramatic to the whole piece. The final portrait is 20,000px x 14,145px which makes it over 282 megapixels in size. With a pixel density this high the reproduction is exceptionally fine, especially considering the world leading quality of pigment ink and paper used in the printing process.
